Why should we consider
handcrafted logs?
Handcrafted log homes are distingui shed
from milled homes in that they use whole round logs. These
logs are prepared by skilled artisans who cut, scribe and
notch each log individually. By contrast, milled homes use
logs that are cut or planed to a specific standard size and
shape. Each log is a duplicate of the next. As a result of
this process, few of the true characteristics of the log remain
intact and each home built becomes a carbon copy of the next.
With handcrafted homes, no two homes are ever the same. Each
handcrafted log home is unique and distinctly different.
Aren't handcrafted logs more
expensive?
As with all homes, handcrafted log homes come in a variety
of shapes and sizes. From a cabin in the woods to a custom
estate, we can offer you plans that conform to almost any
budget.
How do I get started?
The first and most important step is planning. The Atali team
of experts are here to guide you through the intricate maze
of home construction. During the planning stage, we encourage
you to meet with us to discuss plans and costs. If you have
a sketch, we would like to review it prior to our meeting
to determine feasibility and approximate costs. After the
budgeting process is initiated, we start your blueprints.
We want your Atali Log Home to be designed exactly the way
you want it.
What is included in your log home
package?
Our log home packages are customized to include the materials
you need to build the home of your dreams. A standard package
includes all log components required to complete the roof
system and log shell package including the stairs and interior
rail. We can also provide siding and exterior rail packages
upon request.
What type of logs do you sell in
your packages?
We have several choices in wood species that vary in appearance
and cost. Depending on your preference and budget, we offer
Englemann Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, Western Red Cedar and Douglas
Fir. Our handcrafted homes are custom-crafted using a full-scribe
technique. This system ensures a tight log-on-log wall system,
that does not require chink between the logs. All corners
are fitted with saddle-notches and include a curled detail.
Our logs are air dried to achieve quality, stability and to
minimize shrinkage.
What finishes do you recommend?
Avoid anything that creates a barrier on the surface that
prevents the wood from breathing. Moisture trapped inside
an impermeable finish can cause severe damage. We will introduce
you to vendors whose product lines which we have tested and
wholeheartedly recommend to our customers.
